Finca de Uga wins Best Cheese of Spain 2024.

The fourteenth edition of the Best Cheeses of Spain Championship, held today at the Salón Gourmets, has distinguished the Lanzarote cheese from Finca de Uga as the absolute winner among more than 880 competitors.

Our cheese, Don Nicolás Finca de Uga, has been selected as the Absolute Winner in the Best Cheese of Spain category at the fourteenth edition of GourmetQuesos in the Salón Gourmets, among more than 880 cheeses.

‘Don Nicolás’ is a cow’s milk cheese aged for 18 months in wood, with an ocher-colored rind, a yellowish paste, a firm texture, somewhat creamy, and with a crunchy sensation due to the tyrosine crystals. It presents slightly milky aromas and a flavor characterized by sweet, caramel, toasted notes, and slightly fruity hints like tropical pineapple. For all these characteristics, it has been chosen as the best in the country.

An artisanal cheese factory located on the Finca de Uga property, owned by the group, has become the gastronomic pantry for our hotels and restaurants, as well as an agricultural and livestock farm with dairy animals and other livestock species. The cheese factory is equipped with innovative facilities that respect traditional production methods. We exclusively use the milk from our 400 Majorera goats, 300 Canarian sheep, and 30 Jersey cows to produce yogurt and a wide variety of high-quality cheeses, ranging from pressed cheeses made from a single type of milk to cheeses of different blends and vegetable and dairy coagulations, achieving an annual production of only 30,000 kg.
